Non-Destructive Testing for Transportation
Transportation is a broad industry that is involved in virtually every other sector. Malfunctioning transportation parts can have catastrophic consequences for the equipment’s operators, bystanders, and more. Non-destructive testing (NDT) is ideal for testing these transportation components, from brake pads to crankshafts and beyond, for any imperfections that are not apparent to the naked eye.
American Metal Testing is your full-service, NADCAP-certified partner for high-quality and precise non-destructive testing. We work closely with you to ensure that your product measures up to your unique standards. From single samples to high-volume testing applications, we can meet any required standard for critical transportation components, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
NDT to Meet Any Transportation Specification
Trains, cars, trucks, airplanes, public transit systems, and more are all involved in the transportation industry. We test machine parts, metal castings, and any other components that must be free of cracks, flaws, or imperfections. American Metal Testing always strives for quality in everything we do. After any NDT process, we will clean your parts of any remaining residue and return them to you for further processing.
Magnetic Particle Testing
Magnetic particle testing is well-suited to locating fine cracks or other damage in transportation components made from ferromagnetic materials, including engine parts that undergo high stress during operations. An electric current induces a magnetic field in and/or around the component. A magnetic flux leakage will disrupt the field and draw fluorescent magnetic iron particles to any present discontinuities. We evaluate your part based on your specifications and present our findings when the testing is completed.
Radiographic Film Testing
Sometimes called volumetric inspection, radiographic film testing uses x-rays to pass through a cross section of your transportation component. This method reveals internal flaws in your part and can be applied to both metal and non-metal materials. The resulting radiographic films make identifying damage, flaws, or discontinuities a straightforward process. We examine our findings and communicate the results of the NDT to you.
Fluorescent Liquid Penetrant Testing
Fluorescent liquid penetrant testing is a versatile and flexible process designed to find flaws in non-porous materials that are unable to be identified during visual inspections. After the part is cleaned, a level 3 high-sensitivity liquid penetrant is applied to the component, and the liquid is drawn into any cracks or imperfections through capillary action. Once the component has been washed, dried, and developed, present surface flaws are easily found and addressed.
